Stop Settling For Basic

I believe that sometimes we settle in life because we want to be polite, it’s easier, comfortable or we are not the type to “ruffle feathers.” Sometimes we settle because it is easier than getting real with ourselves and acknowledging our needs and desires. We sometimes think it is easier to solve someone else’s problems than our own. We try to take care of others before taking care of ourselves and would commit to someone else’s BS which makes no sense…but we do!

So look at a lot of us in dead-end relationships, working at a job you despise, hating your body, having empty friendships…Spending your day feeling bad because you know that you could have made better choices.

I deserve better than that! YOU deserve more than that!

I deserve to put myself first no matter how hard that will be. It is hard for me! I love people and at the same time, I need to love me more and take care of myself.

I also deserve to make decisions for myself and live my life knowing that I am doing all of the things that I am capable of doing for me…with no apologies.

It may be easier said than done when it comes to putting myself first and living my life for me, but I am working on making decisions that take care of the inner and outer me. I have a little celebration in my heart when I tell someone “NO” and don’t give them a reason or explanation. Does anyone else do that?

It is not easy at all to put our own growth and happiness first because we are all not wired that way, but it is necessary. If you don’t get filled up, exactly what are you giving away? Lately, I have been filling myself and surrounding myself with people that deposit in my life and I give from the overflow first. I refuse to be drained from giving to people who do nothing but harm my person, whether physical or emotional. As I look back on who I was in the past years and ahead to the rest of 2020, I am, now more than ever, saying “NO MORE” settling for me!

It is time for me to make a change…if you are in the same space, it is time for YOU to make a change as well.

Change can be awkward and hard for us. If you are someone who has been settling for years in any area of your life, it is going to be very hard. We have been settling in big and small ways…right? So let’s make a decision to put ourselves first and make a commitment to not settle for anything. We are going to have to dig deep and decide to serve ourselves first rather than someone else for once. It is not selfish…we have to have something to give away or we injure ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. You are no good to anyone if you are not okay.

Let’s stop settling for:

relationships based on money and appearance

jobs that never promote and stress you out, they don’t value you and leave you filling unfulfilled. Or not leaving a good job for a better one because making more money will have your friends and family judging you

friendships that are one-sided and leave you drained

family and friends that keep you around because they benefit from what you can do for them

feeling unhealthy and continuing to eat the wrong foods

Stop agreeing with and saying yes to things you do not want

We need to identify these areas in our lives where we have been settling for less than we deserve. This can be a little overwhelming so pick one at a time. Recognize and acknowledge what it is that you do want instead. Create an image in your mind of what life will be like when you receive what you want. How will it effect your life? Now, create a battle plan! You need to know what you need to do. Who do you need to hangout with? Who do you need to let go of? Do you need a new diet plan, to quit your job, ask for a pay raise or a change of environment? Then we need to take some action! We can do all of the planning in the world but if we do not take any action toward the goal, it is all for nothing. Whatever plans you make for yourself, write it on a calendar or in a journal. Take time everyday to do something that involves implementing your plan.

Let’s Go!!!!

I’m excited that you had a chance to hear my heart. This world isn’t giving us much motivation. We have to find it within right now and at times it can be hard. Stay encouraged!!! Take all the time you need to figure your direction and be kind to yourself along the way. Notice every small good thing. 😊😊😊
