Who are you?

whoami1You can think of a lot of words that describe you. When asked that question, a lot of people describe their work, or the titles they hold, like mom or wife, or student. However you decide to identify yourself, let it be your belief and not what someone else says. What happens when you really sit down and think about who you are or ask someone else to honestly describe you? Maybe you are lazy, stubborn, or kind. What about driven, successful, or prideful. We may not like every word that describes us but the good thing is we can change any of them, at any time. A stubborn person will not try to change anything about themselves. They will just say that that is just who they are. If they are rude to someone….part of who they are. When they are stalking a woman/man they like and they just laugh it off…part of who they are. Anger issues…yep, part of who they are.

whoami3I know that I am not the only person that knows someone who is like that. You know, that person that ask everyone they know for advice and when they hear that they should do something differently, they agree…but nothing changes. “That’s just the way that I am.” “You just have to accept that this is how I am.” This is a cop out to me! Being irrational, rude, hardheaded, and lazy (for example) are not traits that are essential for anyone’s character. These people continue to behave the same way because they are stubborn and comfortable with not changing. They have no idea or maybe they do not care about the feelings of the others that have to deal with them. Whatever traits you identify with as far as what you do, your nicknames, your sense of humor, or what I have you, if you plan to take root in those things, you are setting ourselves up. You are not that description! All are subject to change.

You have the great opportunity to be the decision maker when it comes to who you are. whoami2Every moment of your life, you are deciding how you are identified in the world. I know a lot of people will say that they do not care what people think but this cannot be true. We actually have a need for acceptance. If you have an employer, you need for them to see you a certain way in order to keep that job. If you own your business, you need people to think positively about your business to patronize you.  If you have a crazy or dry sense of humor, or you want to be scene has a mean person who take no sh$+, you are deciding to be seen that way to those you love. If ever you do not like how you are being seen to loved ones or yourself, you can get rid of that, and adopt something new.

We need to look at ourselves often and see what trait no longer serves who we wanna be at this present time. Do you see anything that you are not proud of? Change it! Admit it, either to yourself or to someone you trust, and change it. Do not be ashamed to change things that need changing. We grew up believing certain things because or our parents or the environment that taught us to believe those things. If they do not fit with your present values, work on changing things…this is probably harder because they are so ingrained in your head…it can still be done.

whoamiWe are forever growing physically, so we should want to be forever changing emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.  Aging is inevitable, growth is optional. Nothing worse than keeping company with someone who is still talking about and doing what they did 20 years ago. You need new friends……Change is good….GOOD change is good..

Crystals…to heal? I’ll try it!

crystalsI have really adopted meditation in my morning routine and I have been reading about all of the different methods of better mental health out there because I am not one to pop pills for every little thing. I came across an article about Chakras and healing crystals and I found it interesting enough to want to give it a try.

Ancient cultures used healing crystals and stones to align, clear, and transform their energy, spirit, and physical health. Now lately, my energy has been great…it has been the people around me that draw from my energy and I am over it! I know that I have to start avoiding people or eliminating them from my life, which I have been. The Egyptians, Mayans, and Sumerians would adorn themselves with jewelry and other buildings made from crystals. They knew back then what these crystals could do but modern culture has forgotten about crystals as a healing technique until recently.

How do crystals work?

Everything in the entire universe is made up of energy. The energy in crystals, depending crystals6on the crystal, has healing properties that are even occasionally used in medications. And just like magnets attract and repel, healing stones use energy the same way. Placing a crystal over certain parts of your body will cause your energy to transform, vibrate, pulse, move, or shift in accordance with the properties and energetic signature of the crystal.

What type of healing can you expect?

Crystals can be used to heal migraines…anxiety… many things! Crystals can also accelerate your meditation practices and/or align your chakras. With the right crystal or stone, from what I have read, there is no limit to the healing benefits.

There are 3 primary ways healing crystals can transform your energy and resolve imbalance.

  • Clearing— crystals can absorb and remove certain types of energy from your body (haha, kind of like the people I know).
  • Energizing– crystals can also push energy into your body, mind, or spirit through inducing resonate frequencies. This is similar to electricity- conducting and transferring energy into an object/person. Unlike electricity, it is not painful or dangerous.
  • Balancing–Look at our bodies. For the most part, we are pretty symmetrical. Sometimes our energy gets out of balance and using the appropriate crystal or stone can help us to be balanced and get out of energetic disharmony.

After reading and really getting ready to see if the crystals can do what I read about, I am finally ready to take this on. Research and development!! So the stones I am going to use are…

  1. crystals1Amethyst. It is said to cure hangovers and drunkenness. I don’t have these issues but I threw that in there for free (smiles). It also helps in connecting people to their spirituality. Amethyst clears the mind, brings clarity and tranquility and works with the upper chakras.
  2. Rose Quartz. This one is said to be the love crystal so of course I am crystals2jumping on this one. It helps to attract love, protect relationships and heal your heart. It also helps you to recover from pain and disappointment and balances your heart chakra.
  3. Iron Pyrite. Deters negative energy (gonna purchase a giant one crystals3of these!). It activates your intellect and memory. Strengthens your self worth and willpower and promotes positive thinking and business success. Alex, order me 100 pounds of this one please!
  4. Tiger eye. This one helps to maintain and grow wealth. It helps to crystals4create understanding and awareness. It is said to be very effective when you are feeling stressed so it would be great with meditation.
  5. Hematite. Ok, when I read that this one helps to ground and crystals5balance you, I got excited! I need that so bad with the 101 hats I wear on a daily bases. It is used to center and calm you and clear away negative feelings. It treats anxiety?! Whaaaaaa?. SO yes! we are going to try this one as well.

The way to use them is to hold them in your hand during meditation in your sacred space, carry a crystal with you in your pocket or purse, place them on your body, use them in your home as part of the decor, or during a spa treatment.

crystals7This is really just a few but I do want to see how and if they work. Many people swear by them, just as many do essential oils so I’m in. I will have to do a follow up post on what I think about crystals and the ones I chose to try. If any of you have used or are presently using the crystals are stone, feel free to share your experiences and favorites ones to use.

I Finally Tried It…Dia& Co

IMG_4512I have been stalking Dia & Co for a few months; watching different influencers unveil their goods and loving most of what they tried on. I had a lot of questions and doubts but I eventually got on board, just to see if I would have the same luck.

IMG_4503I went to the site and signed up. The questionaire to find out my size and preferences was easy to navigate and they assigned my a stylist. I could not wait to receive y first box! When I finally did, I felt like the wind had been let out of my sails….I was not happy. The only thing I did keep was a super cute clutch and I use it very often. I sent back the rest (postage paid) and tried to decide if I was going to give it another try.

I did! I tell you what…I am so happy that I did. I filled out the opinion info and told the reasons why I sent the piece back. I was so afraid to get another box like that, I think IMG_4511that I even said that maybe this stylist wan’t feeling me and requested another.  SO I did do another box and low and behold, this stylist got me! She listened to me and sent some HOT pieces that I started rocking right away. I have had her send me two boxes so far and I am in LOVE. I am happy that I did not give up on the whole thing. The styles were great, affordable (they do inquire about your budget), and the fit was perfect! She really understands what I want to feel when I step out of the house. I look forward to working with her some more and sharing the treasures my stylist finds for me.

Dia & Co….Yay!!!!!!

Health/Beauty Break….Apple Cider Vinegar

acv2I am sure that most people have heard of all the wonderful things that apple cider vinegar can do for your body and hair. It has been labeled a “miracle” natural remedy for things like reducing blood pressure and blood sugars, weight loss, warding off cancer, a great clay mask for persons with oily skin and adding shine to your hair when used as a rinse and many more….. Not all of these have been proven or supported by science as of yet but many people swear by their results. I have to admit that I have used it and I was impressed by my results.

Now I am not about to tell you that it is a bad idea to use ACV. I am still consuming it to this day, but I am going to say that too much of anything is gonna cause some issues eventually. Consuming too much ACV can lead to some adverse effects…..these to name a few…

  • acv4Stomach issues– If you have ulcers, inflammation, or a sensitive stomach, ACV may aggravate them. Drinking too much of it can also cause erosion to happen to your stomach lining, not to mention cramping and some frequent not-so-pleasant visits to the bathroom
  • Tooth Decay–The vinegar is acidic so too much of it will cause erosion that will weaken your enamel and lead to tooth decay.
  • Temporary weight loss–We have all seen the ads and interviews where celebrities have claimed to have lost weight drinking ACV, but we have to know that it is not a magic pill..or drink. Drinking ACV alone can reduce water weight but we all know that losing water weight is temporary, especially us women. All it takes is a cycle and that burning drink will be all for naught. IF you use ACV as a dressing though, it can be a part of a healthy effort to maintain your weight.
  • Lower your potassium– this drink can cause your potassium levels to drop. This can be bad for people who are on diuretic medications for their blood pressure.acv3 Low potassium can cause problems for you like severe leg cramps or stomach cramps, tingling or numbness to name a few.
  • Appetite issues- There are people out there that try to use ACV as an appetite suppressant but I talked to my nutritionist and she says it can backfire on you and cause excessive hunger because you are not taking in calories.

acv1It is never a good idea for us to starve ourselves. There are so many fad diets and weight loss methods that may work for one person but not for you. Find a healthy way to lose weight that will not cause you to lose teeth or limbs. I am trying to use the old food pyramid and see what that and some daily exercise is gonna so for me. I am happy that I get to talk to people about these things to pass them on. You never know who needs the information that you have learned today!

No I will say this….ACV does do wonders for detoxing your scalp and adding shine to your hair. Use it as a rinse before you shampoo so that you don’t go outside smelling like you have hygiene issues…I’m just saying..

Are you responsible”for” or “to” them?

responsibilitytomeI read somewhere that The Law of Responsibility says that we are responsible FOR ourselves and TO others. Seriously, there is nothing wrong with helping another person. I mean, that is why we have what we have, including our gifts and talents…to enjoy them ourselves and to share with others. We just have to have boundaries, and know how to enforce them. In any relationship that we have, there must be lines, clear lines, that help us to empower others to do what they should be doing. Those same clear lines should remind us that we are doing things for them that they should be doing for themselves.

I find myself helping out a lot even though I have so much on my own plate. It does start to effect how I accomplish things that I need to…if I accomplish them at all. I used to end up overworked, stressed out and frustrated, but then I realized I was doing it to myself. Other people’s problems became my problems and I still had my own problems to dealresponsibilitytome1 with. With all of that going on, I was not managing my life well and no one was going to come to my rescue. When we take on other people’s issues, we are taking responsibility FOR them, and that is not our job. Our helping at that point, is not helping!

If we are going to be a good friend to those we love, we have to be responsible TO them by telling them when things seem out of control and something needs to be done to get things back in order. As long as we come from a place of love when we deliver, the news should be received well. Being responsible TO others means that we should not be doing for them what they should be doing for themselves. We should just be there for support, coaching, and to maybe give them resources when we see that they are stuck, but not doing the work for them. In the end they will feel so much better knowing that they did actually take care of an issue on their own..

responsibilitytome5One of the most empowering feelings is a person knowing that they have earned something that took a whole lot of effort and responsibility to accomplished. Words cannot describe it and it can become addictive. Let the people in your life experience this feeling by allowing them to be responsible for themselves and you be there to support them in whatever way you can without doing the things for them that they need to do by themselves.

Only when you begin to start taking full responsibility for everything in your life (andresponsibilitytome4 you allow others to do the same in their own), whether it be health, finances, goals, relationships, spirituality, intellect, etc… will your true purpose and growth as a conscious human being begin to push forward. If others are always depending on you to do things for them, or to bail them out, they and you will remain stagnant.

When you’ve finally become responsible for every aspect of your life and you allow others to do the same for themselves, you both become givers, rather than takers. Giving sustains life, taking destroys life. Depending on others fully is being a taker. Being a giver/receiver will create endless blessing in your reality, because you’re now taking part in sustaining life. Empower yourself by taking responsibility for yourself and allowing the ones you care for the space to do the same for themselves. responsibilitytome3
