What do you do when everything in life seems uncertain? What do you do when you are unsure about everything?
I know this sounds strange, but there is a certain amount of beauty in being uncertain…hear me out.
Conflict, contradiction and struggle are often the things that allow people to move forward, to progress, and develop. If you ask anyone what made them who they are today, they are not going to mention some wonderful memory from childhood. They are going to say that what defines them was the loss, struggle, heartbreak and suffering that they experienced in their life. Our ability to make it through is our resilience and that ability to overcome is what is teachable.

You build resilience by expanding your ability to sit with conflict and acknowledging that any day can lack complete resolution. You don’t know it all! You do not have all of the answers! It does not mean that we are powerless; it does mean that we may have to sit and learn to tolerate discomfort….like we are definitely having to do in recent times.
We are human and we are not in control of everything. I think that when are just living our life and doing what we always do, we tend to lose sight of the fact that we are human and we are not controlling it all. Take away all of the distractions of life…career goals and work issues, our relationships and worrying about where we are compared to where we want to be in life, there is beauty in just being human and being uncertain about some of what is to come.

While many of us are at home and we have time to think about who we are without as many distractions, this is a great time to think about what it means for us to be human. We have time to think about things like having patience, kindness, trusting, being and having knowledge and understanding, the importance of laughter, passion and being vulnerable. When we are in a quiet space in our lives, those things remind us of who we are and reveal our powers.
We are always so busy running around, making money, keeping busy that we forget that those things are some of the things that makes us human that they are our superpowers!
Why do we forget…..

- That we must have patience? We just have to have everything right now. We sacrifice receiving the best just to get something faster.
- We must be kind? We are so quick to be upset for the smallest things and allow them to direct our entire day. If someone cuts you off, they are talking and taking a while to get to the part you wanna hear, moving slow in front of you….those are mild inconveniences that should not ruin an entire day… and for some of you, even longer!
- to be understanding and have empathy? We have to come down off of our high horses and pedestals and remember that we are all fighting battles and not one of them are the same. They can be similar, but not exact and the way we handle those battles will not be the same.
- to use our strengths and tune in to our passions? We need to let go of that “grass is greener on the other side” thinking. That grass looks greener because of what they do to care for it. That means we need to water and feed the grass we are standing on and hold on to who and what is important to us.
What am I doing while I am facing all of this uncertainty? I am tapping into what it is to be the human that I am today. Who do I want to be when all things are said and done?

I am fine-tuning my patience and Lord knows I needed time to do that! I am generally a kind person but what can I do from where I am to show kindness, even if it is just a phone call or text to a loved one to check on them and let them know that I care about their well being. I want to trust more and love deeper. I want to be bolder and stronger and feed my passions… I want to worry and fear LESS for goodness sake! I am using this time to become better and to learn to magnify the qualities I really need in my life.
This is a time to reset!
We cannot control anything that is happening at this time, we can only experience it. We can choose not to squander the time and respond in a way that helps us grow. We are going to have to experience the good and the bad and respond in a way that will make us stronger and wiser.

When we are on the other side of all of this craziness, remember that having the ability to feel is a gift…a gift of many that humans are given. We can learn, feel, and be motivated to be and do better. We can forgive and be forgiven. We can be alone and not feel loneliness when we learn to value our independence and love our own company. We can take time to heal and become our own number one fan!
Without a whole of of distraction, we have time to invest in becoming the most human we can be. We have time to treat our families, friends, OURSELVES, and the strangers of the world with more patience, love, kindness, empathy, and compassion. We can laugh more, show more strength, passion and vulnerability in these times. In time, when we are on the other side of this thing, we can be more human and show our true superpowers to all you experience who we are.
The more we are aware of what we can control and what just isn’t in our power to control, we will have more opportunity to find in us what we need to achieve balance and act on that. We cannot control what is currently happening in our world today, but we can empower ourselves to seek balance while so many things are changing, be flexible, and be a peace in the midst of all of this chaos.

“A warrior accepts that we can never know what will happen to us next. We can try to control the uncontrollable by looking for security and predictability, always hoping to be comfortable and safe. But the truth is that we can never avoid uncertainty. ” -Pema Chodron
